like i said in my last post…at the music store where i work…we get a lot of churches coming in needing things. which is sometimes pretty cool cause i get to talk to them about church and begin a little bit of networking…but sometimes it’s kind of a bad thing…
i help a lot of churches get the sound equipment they need thus i know how much these churches spend on sound and lighting…
one church recently spent close to $80,000 on lights alone while another bought the same sound system that tim mcgraw uses for his shows (but this church runs around 800)…
here’s my problem…i see the benefit in sound equipment in a worship service (i lead worship…believe me i know)…but is there a line?…can we go to far?…and what is the line?…most importantly…what does the world think when churches do this?
i want to know what you guys think…(am i thinking to much about this?)
i work at a music store and we have a guy who kind of heads up the pro audio area…since we are in the south we have a lot churches come in needing sound equipment, etc…this guy does a lot of business with churches…like a lot…he probably gets somewhere around 4 or 5 churches a day calling needing a couple thousand dollars worth of sound gear…
he doesn’t go to church…nor sees the need for it…so i decided to ask him…”you work with a lot of churches…what do you think about church?” and his response, “church is a business…people are the customers…the more people the more money you make…i mean come on…anytime you have 8 or 9 people on staff that make 60 grand a year!..its a business…a good business…”
my heart sank…here’s a guy who works with churches for a living and all the churches have displayed from all the interaction with this guy is that “church is a business”…
what are we (the church) doing?…has it become a business?…

well im headed to another wedding this weekend…(it’s either my 3′rd or 4′th for the summer…can’t remember)
something i walk away from most weddings thinking is…”are all weddings stressful?…humm”
